“Clean cooking is the prime mover in achieving UN Sustainable Development goals” - Director (R&D) while celebrating the first anniversary of ‘Suryotsav - Nutan Arambh’
Dr Alok Sharma, Director (R&D), inaugurated the first anniversary of ‘Suryotsav - Nutan Arambh’, a life-transforming pilot of 350 ‘Surya Nutan’ units in tribal hamlets of Dhar district on January 16, 2025, at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. In his inaugural address, Dr Sharma exhorted that IndianOil has a commitment to operational Net-Zero by 2046, for which Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions have to be reduced by energy efficiency improvement, solar and wind energy, Biofuels, Hydrogen, SAF, CBG, CCUs and e-fuels etc. He further emphasised the importance and deployment of the IndianOil-developed Indoor Solar Cooktop – ‘Surya Nutan’, for adopting clean cooking. He stressed the need of its manufacturing at economies of scale, enhanced product awareness, government support, and a suitable financing mechanism for the successful commercial roll-out of the Indoor Solar Cooktop in the market is key. “Clean cooking is the prime mover in achieving UN sustainable development goals”, Dr Sharma concluded. Director (R&D) also addressed various stakeholders of clean cooking, including senior officials of R&D and Marketing, along with Mr Dipak Kumar Basu, ED & SH, Madhya Pradesh State Office, Mr Soumitra Chakraborty, CGM (Marketing Strategy) and Mr Manish Dabkara, CMD (EKI), with whom IndianOil has collaborated to deploy the pilot. The event covered many insightful sessions on IndianOil Solar Cooktop - genesis, evolution, deployment, and further advancements, as well as the EKI initiative in clean cooking and deployment journey of ‘Surya Nutan’ in Dhar taken by subject experts. Earlier, Mr Dabkara highlighted EKI’s clean cooking initiatives and successful collaboration with IndianOil to deploy an Indoor Solar Cooktop leveraging carbon financing mode.
